Anderson Family // Seattle, WA

One of my favorite things about photography is the opportunity to look back and watch the chapters of a family’s life unfold, and the ability to re-experience those moments frozen in time even as new pieces are added. Life changes so fast, and I think it’s so special to experience being in a new season of life, while having a tangible memory of a previous chapter of your life that you loved just as much. Holding photos of where we’ve been, while loving where we currently are, is such a gift that I will always treasure!

These photos of the Anderson family are extra special to me, because they’re some of my dearest friends, and I’ve gotten to see them in so many stages of life. Michele and I go way back to middle school chorus (don’t remind me how many years ago that was!) and after losing touch for a while were reunited a few years later when we just so happened to move down the street from each other in Denver! She was dating Nick, who she met in vet school, and they quickly became our go-to couple for all things adventure in Colorado. We’ve hiked fourteeners, shared holidays, skied lots of mountains, and traveled all over the world together. Since then our lives have gone in many different directions but we’ve stayed close and I feel fortunate to have watched their life together unfold through so many different phases. From raising pets, to getting married, multiple cross-country moves, career changes, and now to parenthood – their life has been so fun to watch, and it’s crazy to think how much it’s changed just since those Colorado days!

As 2 talented veterinarians with a big love for animals, Michele and Nick’s home has always been a lively place full of pets. But when they added baby Alex to the mix, their home became even more fun! I can’t even tell you how much I love this sweet family. Alex may be the happiest baby I ever met, which isn’t surprising if you know his parents! I mean, just look at him — can’t you just hear his laughter?? It’s hard to believe it’s been TWO YEARS since we took these photos at their home in Seattle when baby Alex was just 4 months old. Now he’s an energetic, spunky toddler and big brother with TWO new baby siblings! Life has changed so much for them and has grown in joy, but it will always be so special to look back on these photos and remember another happy time as new parents to the happiest baby. The next time we see each other I’ll be taking updated photos of their new, bigger family of FIVE! (Well, 9 if you include all their animals…they are veterinarians, after all!) Thinking about the photos of their current family hanging on their wall right beside these photos of their previous chapters…there’s just something special about that, like being able to take a visual walk down memory lane!
